Zaida Sam's brothers and sisters were Ethel Korsh (Srulik), Joe Greenberg (Molly), Clara (Sam ) and Nathan Greenberg (Anna,)
Picture #1 is of Edith and Srulik Korsh. Srulik was one of the first five pedlars among the Amish with Zaida Sam and Nathan Greenberg.
Picture #2 is of Anna Greenberg
Picture #3 is Edith and Srulik's weddin. With them are Anna and Nathan. Edith and Nathan were brother and sister.
Picture #4 is Esther Gerstein (Ellen's mother) Fagie K(?) and Edith Korsh. Esther and Fagie are Edith's daughters. Henry Morgan, an early TV star, once held a contest. An essay had to be written stating why one would want to date him. Fagie wrote, "The month is June, And there's a moon, And he's a loon, And I'm a goon." She won- now how in the world do I remember this. Esther suffered a long, painful death from cancer. Grandpa Bill's letter (that someday I will finish transcribing) speak endlessly of this.
Picture #5 is, from left to right, Bubba Rose, Cousin Fanny Shulman and Aunt Ethel Korsh. I really don't know how Fanny was related to us. Grandpa Bill took really good care of her. She stayed with us often. She married Louie late in life. She doted on him and was devastated when he died. She refused to collect Social Security for many years because she refused to tell anyone her age. Penniless, Grandpa Bill finally talked her into it. Fanny was a seamstress and she taught Susie and me some tricks that turned Susie into a pro. Susan would make only Vogue patterns and sew Vogue labels into all of her clothes. Fanny lived in Atlantic City. Grandpa once got a call from the police that she was running naked through the streets. He went down and collected her.

ReplyDeleteI believe you are describing the following family:
ReplyDeleteJacob Greenberg married Sarah Pinkenson. They had at least 8 children of which 6 are known.
(1) Shulim Greenbreg.
(2) Eitel (Ethel) Greenberg married Israel Korsh. They had 3 children:
(2.1) Esther married Henry Gustin
(2.2) Morton (Martin)
(2.3) Florence Korsh
(3) Nathan Greenberg married Anna Feinberg. They had 2 children:
(3.1) William (Walter) Greenberg
(3.2) Florence Greenberg married Sydney G. Radbill and they had a duaghter, Susan.
(4) Jeschie (Samuel Jacob) Greenberg married Rose Handler. They had 3 children:
(4.1) William Grenberg
(4.2) Esther Greenberg
(4.3) Harriet Greenberg
(5) Jossel (Joseph Morris) Greenberg married Molly Silverstein
(5.1) Florence E. Greenberg
(5.2) Charles Greenberg. Charles' daughter is Judy.
(6) Clara Gertrude Greenberg married Samuel H. Polen. They had 3 children:
(6.1) Aimee Polen
(6.2) Myrl Polen
(6.3) Erwin Polen
Going back to the original couple, Jacob Greenberg and Sarah Pinkenson ... Jacob was the son of Avram Greenberg and Sura (Geitel) (maiden name unknown). Jacob was one of 5 known siblings: Froim Volf (Efraim Zev), Samuel (Shimon Chaim), Ruven (Riven) and Isaac (Itsko).
I am descended from Jacob's brother, Samuel (Shimon Chaim).
There are a group of us descendents who have been working on this Greenberg family collaboration since about 1910.
We would love to get in touch with you and add you to the growing family tree as well as maybe fill in some of your blanks.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely yours,
Jeanne Gold

Curiosity prompts me to ask? Which grandfather married 3 times? The paternal grandfather (Abraham Greenberg) or the maternal grandfather (only know his surname was Pinkenson)?
ReplyDeleteSamuel Jacob Greenberg, William's father, had a sister, Clara Gertrude Gitel Greenberg. Clara married Samuel Polen and they had 3 children. Daughter Myrl married Donald B Freedman. Donald's 2nd wife was Shirley Spector. Shirley Spector is somehow related to Fannie Dinah (nee Ipp) Schulman. Fannie's daughter, Bessie married Isadore Spector. I think Shirley is their child or grandchild. Haven't found enough information to connect the dots exactly.
ReplyDeleteSo, your Cousin Fannie isn't actually a relative. But I have similar ties in my family. For example, my grandfather's father referred to his step-sister's husband as his uncle. And the step-sister's step-daughter remained closely tied to my family to the point everyone believed she was a relative as well, but like you, didn't know how.
Fortunately there were sufficient online records to build what I just wrote.
If you email me, I can send you the documents/links for your records.

Found Fannie's death record. She passed away 1917 and her husband was the executor of her remains. So, she outlived him. Hopefully, this direct link will work:
